Hey InSoc student!
If you’re stressed about employability in this tough job market, you’re not alone. Whether you’re in between jobs, applying for summer programs, or simply looking for ways to best utilise the time you’re saving by not commuting into campus, we hope that the list of resources that we’ve compiled below will help you build up your CV and maybe land that next opportunity. We’re rooting for you! 👊🏼
1. Do a virtual internship with InsideSherpa
If you want to get a taste for what a particular company is like to work for, or what work there might entail, all while developing relevant skills, this one is for you! The virtual experiences on the site are created and sponsored by the organisations themselves, and you even get a certificate of completion at the end, which you can then list on LinkedIn and your CV.
Get started here: https://www.insidesherpa.com/

2. Use your skills for good and build new ones by doing some online volunteering
If you, like many of our members, want to make the world a better place, why not volunteer from home?
Vollie (https://www.vollie.com.au/projects) pairs prospective volunteers with organisations that can benefit from their skills. It’s a great place to go if you’re looking to get into a public interest career in the future, or simply want to help the community.
3. Revamp your CV
UNSW Learning & Careers Online features some great guides to writing a CV that best reflects your skills, experience and desired industry.
Log in with your zID to https://careersonline.unsw.edu.au and click “Resources” to find their materials.
They even have an online CV checker that gives you a score out of 100 on your CV (formatting, language, etc.).
Learning & Careers is still running their usual 1-on-1 consultations via Teams, so be sure to book in a session if you want personalised help with working out your CV, a hand writing a killer cover letter, or even to do a mock job interview!

4. Build some new skills
TAFE NSW is currently offering fee free online short courses, which are a great chance to get some extra workplace skills: https://www.tafensw.edu.au/fee-free-short-courses
UNSW students also have a subscription to LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda), which offers a wide variety of online classes: https://www.myit.unsw.edu.au/services/staff/educational-technology/linkedin-learning
We hope you get some inspiration from this list, and wish you every success in your work and academic lives in T2!
