Now that the term break is here and we’re finally able to procrastinate guilt-free (yay!), you might find yourself struggling on what show or movie to watch next. That’s why we compiled this handy list of streaming services that don’t just offer an entire different catalogue to Netflix or Stan but are also completely free! So you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank while fulfilling all your binge-watching fantasies this break.

1. ABC iview & SBS On Demand
These two services are often overlooked by the Australian public, but if you’re particularly interested in documentaries or world movies, there’s no better site for you. To get started, we recommend the series You Can’t Ask That on ABC iview or Loving Vicent on SBS on Demand!
To access these amazing and underrated services, you’ll simply need to open a City of Sydney library account here: https://library.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/Montage/Join.aspx and follow the instructions to access them here: https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/explore/libraries/collections/film-tv
Once you’ve done that you’ll have access to some of the best modern and classic films and documentaries! Make sure to check out I Am Not Your Negro on Kanopy or for something more lighthearted Kedi on Beamafilm.
Did you know your UNSW students can access over 50,000 programs for free through EduTV? Well, now you know! Put those service fees to use and take advantage of all the services you can access as a student, even from your own home. While this database is not the most user-friendly, you’re bound to find some rare gems not available anywhere else. To access you’ll need to log-in through UNSW Library here: https://primoa.library.unsw.edu.au/primo-explore/fulldisplay?vid=UNSWS&docid=UNSW_ALMA61164530270001731&context=L&search_scope=SearchFirst
Yet, another database that you can access as a UNSW student, where you’ll find art films, masterclasses, documentaries and more! Especially handy if you’re trying to impress an Arts & Design faculty date - wink. Here, we recommend The Gleaners and I by Agnes Varda.
UNSW also offers access to other video streaming resources like Alexander Street Press and Drama Online! You can check out the whole selection here: https://www.library.unsw.edu.au/study/information-resources/streaming-video-and-music
